MAPAS Play Day

As you will be aware, since September Salford Music and Performing Arts Service (MAPAS) has been teaching your child as part of a Whole Class Instrumental Teaching (WCIT) project in school. The MAPAS WCIT project, nationally known as ‘First Access’, is designed to teach your child the music curriculum and encourage them to start learning to play an instrument.

As part of this project we would like to invite your child to attend the MAPAS WCIT Play Day at Moorside High School on Saturday 2 February. The Play Day will give your child the opportunity to meet other WCIT musicians from across Salford, learn from some of the best music tutors in the northwest, perform popular tunes and experience what it’s like to belong to a MAPAS Arts Centre ensemble.

As part of the learning process we would also like to invite parents/carers to take part in a percussion session in the morning as part of an icebreaker, which will finish at 10am. The day will conclude with a free concert for family and friends at 3pm.

It will cost £5 for your child to attend  and this entrance fee also entitles them to visit our Arts Centre on Monday 4 or Wednesday 6 February to join in with a Maestros rehearsal at 5.00-5.45pm, as well as all remaining weekly Maestros rehearsals thereafter (during term time)*. Your child will receive a tuck shop voucher with their pack of music at the Play Day, which they will be able to use when they attend a Maestros rehearsal.

Please note that the Play Day is aimed at pupils who are currently learning an instrument through the Wider Opportunities project at Primary School. Please contact the MAPAS office for information on lessons for beginners 0161 778 0256.

We are looking forward to seeing you on Saturday 2 February 2019 for an exciting day of music making!

*The first half term of rehearsals is FREE and after this period Arts Centre Membership fees will apply (£60 per year, £25 per term or £15 per half term).
